Surrounding area: Drakenbergsparken is located in the Hornstull neighborhood of Södermalm. The playground is part of a network of parks in the south western park of Södermalm with a great view of the water. There are shops and restaurants along Hornsgatan.

Age groups: The playground is most appropriate for toddler, preschool, middle school and junior high students.

Features: The primary theme of the playground is a large metal dragon structure that "breathes" water. There is a nearby button that children can press to make the dragon release a large mist of water. This is particularly popular on hot summer days. There is also an open school with a nice indoor area. They offer various activities for children 0 to 13 (for more information go to their website here or their Facebook pages here).
The playground features includes:
In the area for toddlers:
  • Three small play houses
  • A sand pit
  • Three small wooden animals to climb on
  • Two bucket swings
  • A slide (currently under construction)
In the area for older children:
  • Stone eggs for climbing
  • A small slide connected to the dragon
  • An extra wide slide that can accommodate many children using it at once
  • A pedal-bike carousel
  • A large hammock
  • Various swings, including additional bucket swings
  • A basket swing
  • Two trampolines
  • A rope balance structure
  • A large wood and rope climbing structure with two slides
  • Speaking tubes
  • Various games and footprints painted on the ground
In the sports areas:
  • A ping-pong table
  • A beach volley court
  • A sports field with goals
  • A small basketball hoop on the side of a building
  • A small flat ground skatepark with a step-up and small quarter pipes
Accessibility: The playground has a basket swing but does not have other accessible equipment.

Safety: The dragon area has rubber padding and other areas have tanbark. The area for younger children is fully fenced in but the rest of the playground is not. Visibility is very good across the park because it has a lot of open space.

Shade: There are quite a few trees around the edges of the park but the playground itself is open.

Seating: There are several benches around the playground.

Picnic area: There are two naturally shaded areas with picnic tables in front of the area for younger children and near the ping-pong table. There is an outdoor grill available for use (for more information go to their website here).

Restroom and changing table: There is a restroom available in the Draken open school during park operating hours. There is a public toilet with a changing table near the water, about a three minute walk from the playground.

Strollers and bikes: There is designated stroller parking in front of the open school if you want to lock your stroller. There is no designated stroller parking for the playground but a lot of space to bring and park a stroller. There are no bike racks in the playground.
