Stockholm Toy Museum

Stockholm Toy Museum is a step through time. The museum has over 40,000 items and is located in a cavernous subterranean hall. The museum was created in collaboration with a group of set designers and the displays are part of the experience itself. There is also a large collection of comics and comic book materials including original drawings and scenes for children to play in. The museum's collection was started in 1974 and moved from Tidö Castle to central Stockholm in 2017. The museum famously displays toys owned and played with by the Swedish royal family.
Surrounding area: The museum is located on Skeppsholmen just south east of the city center among many other popular tourist destinations in the city. It is the first museum on the island from the bridge.
Age groups: The museum is most appropriate for children from 3 years old.
Exhibits: The museum collection is not divided into specific exhibits, however there are some distinct areas:

Toys to Ride

Through the main entrance to the exhibition are a number of toys that are ridden. You can find box cars and radio flyers as well as hobby horses and rockers.

Toys That Go

In the next room through a red archway you will find vehicle toys like cars, planes, boats, and airplanes.

Figurines and Dolls

After the Toys That Go area you will find vintage dolls, rocking horses, and toy soldiers. There are is also a functional zoetrope and reference to early animations.


The rest of the museum is dedicated to comics where you will find first editions, original drawing cells, a large section about Tintin and more. There is also a children's play area in the theme of Bamse's house.

Play Area

After the comics there is an area that has toys to play with, such as a hobby horse jumping course. This area changes often.

Private events & parties: The museum is available to be booked for private events. They can host birthdays by pre-booking.
Accessibility: The museum is completely flat and accessible by wheelchair. The staff have control over all the lights and sounds in the museum and can adjust for any sensitivity.

Restaurant & picnic area: There is a small café inside the museum that has treats and sandwiches as well as coffee and drinks.

Strollers & storage: There are free lockers and stroller storage in the museum entrance. You can borrow a lock at the front desk.
